An update of the arbitration rules of the LMAA (London Maritime Arbitrators Association) is going to enter into force on 1st May 2017. The rules have not been updated since 2012.

According to the LMAA, the update has been performed has taken into account the following guidelines: (i) to maintain the current approach of providing the institution with a set of basic rules, but giving sufficient room for party autonomy; (ii) adopting a cautious approach by maintaining the parts that have been successful; and (iii) not being complacent with the procedures in force, trying to maximize efficiency and reducing  procedural costs.
