Eduardo Albors was elected as member of the Executive Council of the Comite Maritime International

Our partner Eduardo Albors, president of the Spanish Maritime Law Association, was elected yesterday as member of the Executive Council of the Comite Maritime International under the presidency of Mr Cristopher Davies. Since its creation in Antwerp in 1987, only two Spanish nationals have formed part of the Executive Council. The CMI is involved in many projects, including supporting before UNCITRAL the enactment of an International Convention for the Judicial Sale of Ships.

Tribute for Doctor Ignacio Melo, President of the Mexican Maritime Law Association

Last Friday 28th of September, a tribute to Doctor Ignacio Merlo, President of the Mexican Maritime Law Association, was held in the city of Mexico, with the presence of the Presidents and distinguished members of the Latin-American Shipping Law Associations and the attendance the President of the Comite Maritime International, Christopher O. Davis. At the tribute to Doctor Melo, the book entitled “Shipping Law at the dawn of the third decade of the XXI century” was released Eduardo Albors attended as President of the Spanish Shipping Law Association and as the author of one of the articles entitled “Insurance claims and the right of subrogation under the Spanish Shipping Act”.

SOS Yachting 5th Fiscal Meeting with the participation of Miguel Angel Serra

The fifth edition of the Fiscal Meeting organised by SOS YACHTING took place on September 24 at the Hôtel Hermitage in Monaco within the framework of the Monaco Yacht Show. Miguel Ángel Serra participated on the panel at the meeting in representation of the Firm, together with Dorijan Dujmic, Manager at BWA Yachting (Croatia), Thierry Voisin, President of ‘European Committee for Professional Yachting’ (ECPY, France), Ezio Vanucci, Partner at Moores Rowland Partners (Italy) and Mike Stones, CEO ‘The Superyacht Investor’ (London). Our Partner discussed with the attendees the latest news and updates of Fiscal and Customs issues regarding chartering in the Mediterranean: EU Infringement proceedings related to the Yachting sector, Charter under Temporary admission in EU waters, Returned Goods relief and news about the additional 25% Customs duties on US built yachts, Brexit and charter of British flags/red ensigns and, finally, new regulations and trends for the 2020 charter season. The event brought together more than one hundred and fifty attendees, including representatives of major European shipyards, shipping registers, management companies, brokers, lawyers, financial institutions and insurance companies.

IV Seminar of Shipping and Port Law organised by the International Association of Ports Law

Our partner Eduardo Albors, President of the Spanish Maritime Law Association, was invited by the University Menendez Pelayo of Santander to give a lecture on the Royal Decree 131/19 on ship agency that has recently entered into force in Spain. His lecture took place within the IV Seminar of Shipping and Port Law, which took place at the beautiful Palace of la Magdalena. Various and very interesting topics were discussed under the direction of the Chief Legal Counsel of the Spanish Ports, Mr José Antonio Morillo-Velarde del Peso. The Seminar was organised by the International Association of Ports Law under the presidency of Fernando Barcena.

“Chartering in the Med: the latest Fiscal and Customs news”, conference leaded by Miguel Ángel Serra at the MYBA Charter Show 2019

Our partner Miguel Ángel Serra leaded the breakfast conference organized by SOS Yachting last May 1 at the MYBA charter show held in Barcelona under the title “Chartering in the Med: the latest Fiscal and Customs news”. The conference took place in the Crew lounge area of OneOcean Club and the main issues discussed were the latest news and changes in Spain, France & Monaco, Italy and Croatia for the upcoming charter season:  The 25% of additional Customs duty on US built yachts imported in the EU Customs territory.  Status of chartering under Temporary Admission regime in the different jurisdictions.  Application of the YET (Yachts Engaged in Trade) scheme, also in the different jurisdictions.
